 For
many students, the classroom is not user-friendly.
But for the hard-of-hearing student, who has trouble hearing certain
speech sounds even under ideal conditions, classroom noise and distance
from the teacher can make learning a very frustrating experience.
To
improve communication between the teacher and his students, Williams
Sound has developed the Motiva Personal FM System. It
is perfect for one-to-one or one-to-many communication in a variety
of situations because of its clarity and its portability.
Wireless
Transmitter and Receivers Make It Possible
The teacher wears a lapel microphone wired to a belt clip transmitter.
He or she can move about freely and everything that is said is transmitted
through the air and heard clearly by listeners using portable receivers,
even if they are in the back of the room. The transmitter acts like
a "miniature radio station" sending its sound to whatever
receivers are tuned to its frequency.
Because the
microphone is placed so close to the sound source (the teacher's
mouth) and pumped directly into the students' ears, background noise
and distance become almost irrelevant.
Both systems
operate over a range of up to 300 feet and can
accommodate any number of receivers. The only difference between
the PFM 330 and the PFM 360 is that the 360 adds an
environmental microphone to the receiver so the user can hear nearby
students as well (for group discussions, etc.). Separate volume
controls ensure the best balance between the teacher's input and
the input from the environmental microphone.
Headsets,
earbuds, etc.
Both receivers can be used with single or dual earbuds, headphones,
or custom earmold drivers to suit a wide range of hearing losses.
(Mild to moderate, or moderate to severe when using with a hearing
aid.) An optional neckloop is available for use with T-coil-equipped
hearing aids. For those with cochlear implants, a Direct Audio Input
(DAI) cord can be used.
